General (Commitment)
Commitment to “stay the course” can be a real challenge in life. People rarely excel at anything unless they are committed. Similarly, no one ever reaches his or her ultimate potential unless they are fully committed. If you sometimes have difficulty remaining committed, you may wish to consider the following:

General (Confidence/Skill/Experience)
When we try to learn something new, most of us struggle at one time or another. It’s really just a matter of practicing enough to gain the experience we need to become more comfortable in our ability. Do you remember how you felt the first time you rode a bike, drove a car, learned a musical instrument, played a sport, tried to dance, prepared a meal, etc.? It is rarely the case that you lack some innate ability to perform; rather, it is usually more a matter of confidence (or lack thereof) that inhibits your success. Practice leads to confidence … and confidence manifests itself as skill. Bill Bachrach says the key to becoming skilled at anything is as simple as the instructions on a bottle of shampoo, “Lather … Rinse … Repeat!” Just keep practicing until you gain the confidence you need. If your confidence is a bit shaken at this point, you may wish to consider the following:
Take the time to review how far you’ve already come. Reflect upon your original level of skill and the performance you were experiencing?
| • |
Have you noticed a difference in your Clients (i.e., more openness; a greater acceptance of your recommendations; better implementation; a willingness to provide Referrals, etc.)? |
| • |
Have your Clients expressed their positive experiences? |
| • |
Have you added Ideal Clients since you began? |
| • |
Have you politely disengaged from Clients that you prefer not to serve? |
| • |
How do you feel about your professionalism now versus in the past? |
| • |
Have you begun making progress toward your personal Goals (beyond your professional Goals)? |
How important is it to you to achieve your Goals?

General (Time Issues)
To quote Terry O’Hara, “Time is the only non-recoverable resource in life.” Many Financial Professionals struggle with managing their time. If you often find yourself at a loss for time, you may wish to consider the following:
| • |
How successful are you at managing your calendar … versus how successful would you like to be? |
|
• |
Is your calendar set up in 5-minute increments (to reveal “found time”)? |
|
• |
What are you prepared to do when you receive a “gift of time” (i.e., when an appointment cancels, etc.)? |
| • |
What has to change so that you can schedule the time to do the work your Goals require? |
|
• |
How are you going to make that happen? |
|
• |
What will that do to your progress toward your Goals? |
| • |
How have you prioritized your activities? |
|
• |
What can you delegate to others? |
|
